BCD, CLASS 1 and ICDF Rules for the UK and Europe

IMPORTANT NOTE – BMFA RULES ARE NOT BEING UTILISED FOR UK & EU CARRIER FLYING AT PRESENT!

The rules published on this website (derived largely from the American AMA rule-set and amended by Andy Housden and other regular fliers) have been accepted as preferable at all UK & EU contests for many years. There are differences so please study the rules shown on this website before investing time and money in building your carrier-deck model.

CLASSES

Basic Carrier Deck (BCD) requires only simple profile aircraft.  Models and engines are deliberately kept uncomplicated, inexpensive and easy to operate, with a scoring system that emphasises low rather than high speed.

Class 1 Carrier Deck, is for technical experts and the scoring method favours high speed.  Models must also be fully scale-like and need complex gadgets on board to achieve the low speed phase of each flight.

Internal-Combustion Ducted-Fan (ICDF) is a sub-class applicable to either BCD or Class 1, allowing some minor deviations to those requirements in order to make a ducted-fan model competitive against propeller-driven aircraft
